Analeine Cal y Mayor studied filmmaking at the Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica in Mexico City and completed her studies in ESCAC Barcelona and in Los Angeles with Judith Weston.
She has received several grants like UNESCO- Aschberg in residence in Kunstlerhaus Buchsenhausen, Austria.(2005) Global Arts Village, New Delhi , India (2006) and FONCA ´s Residence in Berlin to make video art projects. Her videos have been in numerous festivals and galleries.
“The Boy Who Smells Like Fish” (a.k.a. Treading Water) produced by Rhombus Media (The Red Violin, Blindness) and Redrum (Elysium, Spectre 007) is her first feature film and premiered at Miami International Film Festival with actors such as Carrie Ann Moss (The Matrix), Zöe Kravitz (X Men) and Ariadna Gil (The Pan´s Labyrinth) among others. Winning Best script in WIFTS Award (Women International Film and TV Showcase).
Cal y Mayor ´s second feature film “La Voz De Un Sueño” premiered at Morelia International Film Festival and opened theatrically in April 2018 and is now on Netflix.
In TV series she directed the dramedy “Amarres” for Turner released 2020 featuring Gabriela de la Garza and Juan Pablo Medina, the comedy series “Los Pecados de Bárbara” and “Selena: The Series”, a Netflix original.
Her third feature, a dark comedy, “Where Birds Go to Die” featuring Flavio Medina will be released 2020.
