Juan Pablo is a graduate of Communications with an specialty on Film by the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City. He graduated with honors thanks to his short film Consecuencias, which he wrote and directed.
He went through an MA of screenwriting and directing at the Melbourne University, in Australia. His thesis short film Sacrifice won the top prize at the KINOKI Film Festival in 2009.
He started his professional career as an assistant director for Benjamín Cann for four years in several projects such as soap operas (La fuerza del destino and Los exitosos Pérez) and series (Sexo y otros secretos) for Televisa. For the same company he worked as a alternate director for the soap operas Mentir para vivir and Por ella soy Eva. Juan Pablo has also worked as his assistant in the plays Desdémona (Teatro UNAM) and La piel en llamas (Bobo producciones).
He has directed over 80 episodes for Televisa’s Canal 2, as well as the soap operas El color de la pasión, La vecina and the series La candidata and Caer en tentación. He has been a nominee for Best Director at the Premios TVyNovelas three times, and once a winner.
He started 2018 shooting his first fiction feature as a director and screenwriter, La jaula, which is expected to participate on international film festivals and to have its’ cultural run by the end of the year. He is also post-producing his new short film Libre, starring Armando Hernández.
For advertising, Juan Pablo has worked as a director for brands such as Mercedez Benz, Kellogs, Volkswagen, Bimbo, Sabritas, among others.
