Samuel Kishi

Samuel Kishi is a Mexican writer and director who graduated from the Bachelor of Audiovisual Arts from the University of Guadalajara. His creations have participated in more than 100 national and international exhibitions and festivals such as La Berlinale, Clermont Ferrand in France and the Critics’ Week in Cannes.

His short film “Mari Pepa” won the Mexican Academy Award (Ariel) for Best Short Film and he also won Guadalajara and Morelia International Film Festival.

His debut film “Somos Mari Pepa” premiered in 2014 at the Berlinale on the Category Generation 14Plus and was nominated for 3 Mexican Academy Awards. Samuel also has an Animation Studio called Platypus, where he has worked for Turner, Disney plus among other projects.

By 2019, he premiered “Los lobos” at the Berlinale on Category Generation Kplus 2020 where he won Grand Prix of the Generation Kplus International Jury Award and Peace Film Award and was nominated for the Crystal Bear. “Los lobos” received numerous Ariel awards, including original screenplay, acting revelation and direction. It was also nominated for “Best Ibero-American Film” at the Goya Awards. He is currently writing his third film “Alondra dejó el Nido” which was selected for Morelia Sundance Lab in 2019.
