Joseduardo Giordano Chalamanch “Joe” is a Mexico City born and raised screenwriter and director who majored in filmmaking at Centro de Estudios en Ciencias de la Comunicación.
His first feature film “El Club de los Insomnes” (written, produced and directed in collaboration with Sergio R. Goyri Álvarez) was released in Mexico on June 15 2018 and in Netflix around the world on December 1st 2018. The movie shot independently and it only received IMCINE’s tax funding for postproduction and distribution. It was also recognized with a Tribeca Film Institute scholarship by the TFI Awards Support & Partnerships in Latin America.
“Insomnes” won nine “Pantalla de Cristal” awards including: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Casting. It was also nominated for best Supporting Actress at the #61 “Ariel” award (Mexican Academy Award) and to ten “Diosas de Plata” (Mexican Cinematographic Press and Critics) awards, including: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best First Feature.
In 2017 he finalized, in collaboration with José A. Terán Morales, the feature film adaptation of the mexican novel “Todo Nada” by Brenda Lozano. Now, again with Sergio R. Goyri Álvarez, he is adapting “Salida de Emergencia”, a novel by Maira Colín, which he plans to direct alongside his partner.
He has penned multiple articles published in newspapers such as El Fanzine and magazines such as Letras Libres, Picnic, Los Suicidas… among others. He also published the short story “Desayuno After Party” in the anthology book from Editorial Selector “Nos Vemos a la Salida”, and the short story “Döppelganger” in the anthology book “Zombies, Espectros y Fobias”. He also co-wrote the pilot for the TV series “Mexywood” starring Luis Gerardo Méndez.
In 2012 he directed, for the project “Una Navidad Increíble” by GNP, the short film: “Lalo & Santaclós”, which was selected in the eighth edition (2013) of the “Short Shorts” Film Festival. In order to pay rent, groceries and other expenses, he has directed TV commercials and DigitalContent for brands such as: Nissan, Nextel, BBVA México, Jack Daniels, Palacio de Hierro, GNP, John Langdon Down, Hyundai, Grupo Fórmula, among others.
In 2019 he started working at CANVAS as Head Creative Writer.
