Jacques Toulemonde

Directors

Jacques Toulemonde was born in Bogota into a French-Colombian family. In Paris, he studied literature at La Sorbonne.

In between 2003 and 2012, he served as first assistant director in several feature films of the new Colombian cinema. In 2010, he directed the short film UN JUEGO DE NIÑOS, shot in Bogota and post-produced in France. This film was selected in more than thirty film festivals and received more than ten international awards.

During spring and summer 2014, he directed the feature film ANNA, a road movie between France and Colombia. It tells the story of a young Colombian mother trying to win her son’s love back. This feature received three Colombian Academy Awards, including best screenplay, and was nominated for Best Iberoamerican Film both at the Goya Awards in Spain, and Ariel Awards in Mexico.

In 2017, Toulemonde wrote and directed the series CAMIONERO, produced by Evidencia Films for Studio+. The series was selected in Cannes Series 2018 and Rochelle’s Film Festival. During 2018 and 2019, we directed three episodes as well as the second unit of Netflix’s series Green Frontier, of which he’s also an associate producer. In 2023, he directed Netflix’s original film HISTORIA DE UN CRIMEN - MAURICIO LEAL.

Concurrently to his director’s career, Jacques Toulemonde also serves as a screenwriter. He is the writer of his own projects and co-wrote EL ABRAZO DE LA SERPIENTE, winner of the Art Cinema Award during Cannes’ Directors Fortnight 2015, the Sundance’s Alfred P. Sloan Award for best screenplay, and nominated for Best Foreign Film at the Oscars® 2016. PAJAROS DE VERANO, co-written by Toulemonde, was the opening film of the 50th edition of the Directors Fortnight. In collaboration with his writing partner, Juana del Río, he wrote the Netflix series GOLES EN CONTRA as well as Jorge Cadena’s first feature MALESTAR TROPICAL.
