Joe Rendón Studied comunications at the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City, specializing in Filmmaking. He then studied a filmaking at La Femmis, Paris (imparted by NYFA), while at the same time studying the acting career at CasAzul to further develop his knowledge directing actors and as a theater director.
He began working as a Writer / Director in 2007, with music videos and tv-ads, but it’s through his short films that he really stood out, gaining recognition in national and international festivals.
In 2010 he wins the “Estimulo a Creadores” by IMCINE, a government funding to write his first feature length script titled “Desolados”.
In 2012 his short film “Aquellos ojos verdes” had a very successful national and international festival circuit, culminating in the Cannes Short Film Corner in 2012. That same year he publishes his first book, “Postales, la ciudad de la nostalgia” (Postcards from a nostalgic city).
During 2014 he develops a tvseries for Filmadora Nacional (Después de Lucía) and HBOLatino as head writer. He also wins another recognition from IMCINE with another tvseries (Acapulco 67) in a prestigious workshop to develop dramatic series.
In 2015 he writes and directs a 12 episode web-series “Tenemos que hablar” for Univisión, produced by Dirty Kitchen (Colombia), production company with whom he later developed another 5 web-series.
In 2017 he co-directed the comedy series “Mita y Mita” (Chocolate Films) that aired in Televisa, Canal 2, during september..
He also directed 2 episodes for “Descontrol” (Lemon Studios + W Studios) which will air in Univisión USA in January 2018.
In 2017, his first tv-series airs in Mexico. “Dogma” (Televisa, 2017), a paranormal thriller of which he was head-writer and wrote 7 scripts, show runner and director of 2 episodes (Chapters 6 and 9). A second season is in development.
In 2018 he recived EFIteatro, a government funding to direct, translate and co-produce Annie Baker’s “The Flick” for the first time in spanish. It had a successful run of 3 months, which earned both Joe and his protagonist nominations from the mexican theatre press for “Adaptation” and “Leading actor”.
He filmed his first full length feature in 2017 titled “Como Novio de Pueblo” produced by Leo Zimbrón and Warner Bros, and had a wide release in Mexico that ran for 8 successful weeks during the first semester of 2019, making it one of the top 10 grossing mexican movies of the year.
In 2019 he co-directed the sketch comedy show “Backdoor” for Comedy Central,Youtube and Amazon Prime. He also developed “Ernestito” for Viacom Studios, and wrote the series “Femex” for BTFMedia.
He’s currently living in Mexico City, developing projects for tv, film and theatre.
